Current evidence indicates that livestock and domesticated crops were first introduced in SW Europe during the 6th millennium BC. However key questions concerning animal husbandry remain unclear:
-
When did animal herding first started?
-
What was the scale of herding and its role in the expansion and transformation of early farming?
-
How animal management impacted human-environment relationships and territorial organization of agro-pastoral communities?
The project GeoFodder seeks to shed some light on these questions by exploring early livestock diets and herding practices from the Neolithic through to the Bronze Age.
